The ride over to the beautiful island of Ponza looks just like the one to Capri.
Ponza is the largest of the Pontine islands in the Tyrrhenian sea off the west coast of Italy and is a renowned hot spot for locals especially the Roman’s who have kept the island their own little secret.
Approaching the island
Ponza is a small island that the Roman’s take off to for their summer weekends or sun-drenched holidays, perfect for day trips from Rome, weekends or a weeks holiday if you really want to unwind and rest mind, body and soul. To get there its an easy one hour train trip from Rome to a little coastal down heading south called Anzio, from the port you jump on the hydrofoil and in just over an hour you are on the tranquil little island of Ponza.
Now is the time to start jetting off for your warm Italian summer holiday so I thought I’d share some favourites of mine with Isola di Ponza definitely high on the list. There are many faces to this charming little island with surprises around every corner which is why I love it so dearly.
All around the island there are concealed yet easily accessible crystal clear swimming holes.
La Spiaggia Chiaia di Luna
The natural landscape here is breathtaking!!!!!!!!
When you are lying on the beach at La spiaggia Chiaia di Luna, remember to open your eye’s and look up, the rock-face is like nothing you have ever seen before, and to be so close to Rome in the Lazio region and to be able to escape to somewhere so remotely magnificent, it can be a little overwhelming at first sight..
Get a room with a view at Grand Hotel Chiaia Di Luna
Walking through town, the same as anywhere in Italy I make a conscious effort to remember to take the unexpected turns that lead you to little corners on the island blooming with fresh colour and tranquility.
The colours may change yet the beauty remains the same on Isola di Ponza!
Just before aperitivo hour approaches the local port side restaurants and bars prepare to be swamped by holiday makers who have been enjoying the warm summer sun all day and are just about ready for their first cocktail.
Some of the heavenly beaches and water holes to visit when on the island..
