Via Margutta is a small quite narrow street in the heart of Rome running between Piazza del Popolo and Piazza di Spagna. Behind the walls that line this pretty street is history from the middle ages, that of many people who were skilled in creative activity of the arts, originally the street was home to Roman craftsmen skilled in marble cutting, portrait painting and sculpturing. I believe the street used to buzz during the day and night with workmen sitting in their open studios that lead onto the street listening to music playing, those of the alternative artistic type.
The street then became extremely well known after Roman Holiday was filmed here with Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn, then after the success of the film, famous faces like Italian film director and scriptwriter Federico Fellini who also wrote and directed La Dolce Vita then moved to the street to live, and well the rest is history!
Today via Margutta is so charming, still full of wealth yet its now a quiet street drapped with luscious green vines as you walk down the neat little cobble stones, the doorways to the homes are so beautifully kept, immaculate shining brass door handles, and there is still the occasional wonderful small boutique full of elaborate antiques or cutting edge modern art all holding rather high price tags, this is an extremely affluent street yet holds so much charisma and beauty.
